The Kerr County Democratic Party Office Will Be Closed Until May 1st
A Message From the County Chair
Covid-19 Advisory and the County Convention
The Executive Committee of the Kerr County Democratic Party met Saturday and decided to close the office from Monday, March 16 to May 1, 2020. The move was in direct response to the advent of the Covid-19 virus that is sweeping the country. It is important that we do what we can to “flatten the curve” and assist healthcare professionals by staying healthy. Moreover, holding events at this time will only increase the peril for anyone vulnerable to the virus. This will affect all of the remaining events planned for March 2020. As a result, there will be no events planned for April.
The Executive Committee will reconvene on or about April 15 and reassess reopening the office on May 1.
The County Convention scheduled for Saturday, March 21, cannot be cancelled. According to the Texas Democratic Party rules, the conventions must be held. There are two main jobs for the convention:
Identify and approve the 14 delegates to the state convention in June
Pass any resolutions coming before the convention.
We have received guidance from TDP on how to conduct the convention under these circumstances.
According to the TDP there were 17 registered to attend the convention, 10 of whom have registered to be a state delegate. I am asking that anyone planning on attending the convention on Saturday to pre-register. It is particularly important that you indicate if you want to be a state delegate. Please do this by Thursday, March 19, 2020.
If anyone who is registered now and will NOT be attending the county convention contact me at barbaraV4kerrdems@gmail.com. Please do this by Thursday, March 19, 2020.
I am now informed by TDP that we can add names to the state delegation for 30 days after the County Convention. A second notice for state delegates will go out before the 30 days are up.
Any resolutions to come before the county convention should be written on the TX Democratic Party Resolution Form.
County Convention Venue
The County Convention is now scheduled to be held at the Kerr Arts and Cultural Center. Depending on the final number of those attending the County Convention, it’s possible that we will move the event to the Kerr County Democratic Party office. It's also very possible that we will be able to hold County Convention via telephone conference.
The final decision on changes to the venue, etc., will be made on Thursday, March 19. Each person who plans on attending the conference as of Thursday will get an email from me about those changes. If we decided to conduct a telephone conference, instructions on how to access it will be in that email.
